Special Olympics 17th Annual Sallarulo's Race for Champions 5K Run/Walk

When: Saturday, November 5 | 8:00 a.m.
Where
: NSU Fort Lauderdale/Davie Campus

Get out your running – or walking - shoes and sign up for the 17th Annual Sallarulo’s Race for Champions to be held at the Fort Lauderdale Campus on Saturday, November 5. Hundreds of runners and walkers will participate in this 5K race to benefit Special Olympics Florida.

Registration starts at 6:30 a.m. and the run starts at 8:00 a.m. along Ray Ferrero Jr. Blvd. ALL Alumni, Faculty, staff and students who sign up to run or walk with the NSU team, will have the $39 per person fee WAIVED. All registered participants will receive a few race shirts, medals, and gift bag. You can also choose to start your own fund raising page to help support Special Olympics. 

Following the race, an awards ceremony will be held at 9:00 a.m. Special Olympics Florida’s athletes, their families and all race participants are invited to stay and celebrate at the Carnival of Champions featuring breakfast and lunch, surprise celebrity guests, refreshments and entertainment.

#BleedSharkBlue Social Media Challenge

When: November 7-13
Where: Anywhere!

NSU Sharks know there are no boundaries when it comes to showing your Shark Pride. During Homecoming and Alumni Week, we invite you to flood social media with photos of how you #BleedSharkBlue, even if you are oceans away! 

NSU alumni who participate in this challenge will receive a FREE mailed NSU alumni car decal. Here's how to enter:

  1. Find your favorite NSU shark spirit photo 
  2. Post the photo on social media (Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, or Facebook)
  3. Tag @NSUalumni and #BleedSharkBlue in your post

Note: If your profile is on private, please let us know that you have participated by emailing us a screenshot of your post, along with your full name and NSU ID to alumni@nova.edu

Au Café: French Conversation

Where: Don Taft University Center, 2nd Floor Lounge 

Do you want to improve your French? The Department of Humanities and Politics is proud to host a Homecoming and Alumni Week Au Café: French Conversation Table! Enjoy café while practicing your french in an informal and relaxed atmosphere. 

All levels are welcomed.

Fischler Paint and Sip

When: Tuesday, November 8 | 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Where: Virtual

The Abraham S. Fischler College of Education and School of Criminal Justice is proud to host a virtual paint and sip homecoming event for alumni. This creative session will be guided via Zoom by NSU student artist Mikaela Whitmer.

A paint package will be provided to attendees. This event is limited to the first 30 registrants and is now full.

NSU distinguished alumnus Sunil Patel, D.O. is a board certified physician specializing in nephrology and practices medicine in Apple Valley, CA. Join this conversation with Dr. Patel as he shares his journey from being an NSU biology major to a leader in healthcare. 

"NSU's Biology Program served as a gateway to my career in Osteopathic Medicine and medical profession. It challenged me in various aspects, particularly academically, allowing me to be prepared for rigorous curriculum for medical school ahead. I felt prepared for the first year of medical school. I was also nominated and a recipient of the Barry Goldwater Scholarship, which opened many opportunities when applying to medical school and as well residency programs. What impressed me most was the proximity and closeness of relationship I developed with faculty and other students, creating a life long friendship."

Join our veterans and distinguished guests on November 11th to celebrate a Veterans Day that will be unlike any other in NSU’s history as we dedicate the US Armed Forces Service Plaza at Forman Field. The event will honor and recognize our veteran students, faculty, and staff who continue to impact our community through their leadership and service to others.

Did you know? In 2021-22, Coach Jim Crutchfield and the Sharks finished the regular season with an undefeated record and won both the Sunshine State Conference and NCAA South Region titles. Come out and support a fast-paced, high-scoring brand of basketball that is a leader in virtually all offensive categories.

NSU distinguished alumnus Nick Carris, Pharm. D., BCPS is an associate professor and Director of Ambulatory Care at the USF Health Taneja College of Pharmacy. His lecture Prediabetes: An Undiagnosed Pandemic is open to all. Hosted by the Halmos College of Arts and Sciences Department of Biological Sciences.

A reception will follow.

NSU Athletics Hall of Fame

Founded in 2007, the NSU Athletics Hall of Fame is designed to recognize NSU Athletic alumni, former coaches, friends of the athletic department and program pioneers for their outstanding athletic achievement and contribution to the NSU Athletic programs. The 13th NSU Athletics Hall of Fame class includes men's swimmer Esau Simpson, women's basketball player Danielle Robinson, women's golfer Abbey Gittings, rower Lauren Boudreau, and the inaugural men's and women's swimming coach Hollie Bonewit-Cron. NSU Athletics Alumni Brunch, Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence

When: Saturday, November 12 | 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Where: Championship Club Room in the Rick Case Arena at the Don Taft University Center

All NSU athletic alumni, Knights and Sharks, are invited back to campus for a brunch celebrating NSU Athletics' 40th anniversary. Alumni are welcomed to bring up to three guests.

The Halmos College of Arts and Sciences proudly hosts a Backyard Beach Bash at the Marine Environmental Education Center at the Carpenter House! Please join us for some family friendly fun at Hollywood Beach on November 12 (Saturday) from 4-6 p.m. We will have food, fun and games and you can tour the Center and see our sea turtles!
